Scientists discover large groundwater reserves in Africa

According to recent statistics, about one billion people lack access to safe drinking water, forcing them to consume polluted water, giving rise to a variety of diseases resulting in millions of deaths around the world. A majority of people, for whom, filtered water doesn’t need just a push of a button, live in the African continent, which as we all know isn’t exactly rich in water reserves. However, this conception could soon change as a team of scientists are now claiming that the African continent has decent reserves of groundwater.

Huge Groundwater Resources Exist In Africa, Say Scientists

Scientists from London university have recently found out that there are huge ground water reserves in Africa. They came to this conclusion, after studying the data from Africa’s maps. According to the recent research, several countries in Africa have good water resources. To help the people of Africa to get clean and fresh water, they have formed a map that can help the government to get an easy access to more fresh water resources. This map not only gives a clear idea about the wide distinction in the water resources across the continent but also clearly points out the places for fresh water, where bore wells could be excavated to get clean water. The Researchers also assert that the fresh water thus obtained, could most probably help to sustain small-scale irrigation in some places in Africa.

At present, there are more than three hundred million people in Africa who do not have access to safe and clean drinking water, many of whom belong to the poorest and the most weak section across the world, hence this conception, will have a deep effect on most of the world’s underprivileged people thus helping them to become less exposed to drought and to adapt efficiently to the impact of climate change.
