Satchel’s Pizza shapes a playground out of recycled waste

One look at the park built by Satchel’s Pizza in Gainesville, Florida, and it seems more like a regular street side collection of swings and slides built by construction workers for their kids in the developing world. Recycling is as important as reducing the wastage of natural sources, and as one explores various unique and special ways of recycling it seems that the developed world is often stumbling upon creations that are already in existence and in use in the developing world.

It all stems from a very simple principle that when you have limited resources then you are pushed to explore ways to utilize them to the maximum possible extent. It seems that while the developing world has been forced into recycling due to economic needs, the developed world is only turning toward it as it realizes an urgent need to try and heal a bleeding planet.

This little playground for kids has been built out of recycled trash such as old wheels that have been stripped for the swings and other scrap that has been converted into balance beams and playhouses. While sitting in an abandoned Volkswagen and having a pizza is not a special treat, I suppose it is the same as converting old trains or even Boeings into restaurants. This is adding a touch of joy and a dash of fun to the pizza place with the green toppings as well.
