saab 9 3 epower all electric car

Eco Factor: Zero-emission prototype car powered by electric batteries.

Saab Automobile has taken its first step toward a greener world by developing an all-electric vehicle – the Saab 9-3 ePower. The vehicle will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month. The production variant of the vehicle has not yet been planned, but a fleet of 70 vehicles will be created to participate in extensive field trials in Sweden early next year.

Under the hood of the ePower rests a 135KW electric motor that drives the front wheels through a single speed transmission. Instant torque enables the car to hit 100kph in just 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 150kph. The motor is powered by a powerful 35.5KWh lithium-ion battery pack that is accommodated in a modified floor-pan. The onboard batteries can be recharged with a standard household outlet in about six hours.
