In 1992 Elias F. Stenmam, a mechanical engineer started working on his summer home, unlike the others he used paper. Initially just used as insulation, he later also started building furniture with paper , ultimately resulting in the Rockport paper house. The framework to the house is wood just like any other house, it has a regular wooden floor and roof. The wall material, which was supposed to be insulation is pressed paper about an inch thick. It’s nothing but layers and layers of newspaper, glue, and varnish on the outside that keeps it pretty water-proof actually.

He basically rolled newspapers up until they were roughly half an inch thick, and then cut them, glue them and nail them to create a one-of-a-kind papier mache. It’s been eighty years and the most remarkable thing about the paper house is that it’s still intact.
