California bans residential ozone air purifiers

Air purifiers can do amazing things. However, there seems to be a lot of controversy over the recent legislation passed in the California state, that imposed a ban on some harmful air purifiers. According to the California Air resources board, the purifiers harm users more than they help.

The board called for testing all the air purifiers. Stats show that an estimated 2% of the homes in the state of California has these nifty purifiers that is supposed to improve air quality. Due to the presence of these purifiers, about 500,000 people have been exposed to harmful levels of ozone. Specially the asthmatic patients suffer the most due to exposure to ozone.

The purifiers have been marketed under the brand names of Mountain air or Fresh air, over the radio. It is highly argumentative whether Ozone is beneficial or not. Toxicologists claim that Ozone is extremely dangerous. Whereas, the makers of the purifiers claim otherwise.

Personally, I think that Ozone is harmful. The Cali. state legislation has done a good job over restricting and testing these purifiers. At least now, fewer people will be exposed to the dangerous ozone gas. Hopefully, future purifiers will not use ozone.
