Eco Factor: Sustainable building gets powered by renewable energy.
“Red Hook Green” is a result of the joint efforts by Garrison Architects, which is an American firm, and developer Jay Amato. Following the ZEB concept, this 4,000 square foot building uses renewable energy to meet with its daily energy requirements. Sanyo’s HIT bifacial solar panel in combination with low-cost, locally available wind power supply energy.
This live/work facility was New York’s first sustainable zero-energy building planned for completion in late summer of 2010 at the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. The building comprises a single family home and garages with workshop/studio space that has solar powered vehicle charging stations, in addition to offices and outdoor green space.
To provide overall protection, shading and privacy, the second floor south wall is covered in translucent glass and kept open to display the steel substructure. Maintaining symmetry between the lower structure and the overall design is the fourth floor canopy of this sustainable structure.
