Ever watched one of those captivating and truly stunning editions on NGC which talk about the creatures that rule the dark depths of the mighty oceans and live in conditions where normal life would simple crumble and choke to death? They are truly magical and they give you the feeling that alien creatures are not up there, but down there in the ocean depths hiding from us. The fact remains that even till today modern science is finding new and stunning creatures in these dark and lonely depths. Art imitates life and in the case of Lisa Foo & Su Sim it imitates strange and sizzling life forms.
There’s something especially stunning about the light creatures created by Lisa Foo and Su Sim. This pair of designers sat down with a pile of plastic mineral water bottles and came up with a collection of eternal light creations where the plastic bottles become unrecognizable as fluid, organic, blossoming forms. They are delightful pieces that especially are of great interest to someone like me who has been in love with the ocean all his life.
Originally created for the event Art for Grabs at the Central Market in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the light forms are made from bottles the artist collected and saved themselves. The forms are titled according to their shapes, as stingrays, sea creatures, or just organisms. So that strange Jelly Fish or that phantom Sting Ray is now a part of the green recycled world and they are as attractive as the ones that lurk in the shadows of oceans elusive depths!
