Eco Factor: Realtor modifies 1990 Ford Capri to run on electricity.

Deception Bay real estate agent Richard Gowda has spent the last year converting his 1990 Ford Capri into a plug-in electric car that no longer emits any toxic gases. The creator has put the final touches to the vehicle and has received the roadworthy tick of approval as well.

Gowda states that it started off as a desire to do something different and ended with a vehicle that runs on electricity. The original gas car is now being powered by 45 LiFePo4 batteries that collectively churn 144V. Since the car no longer visits the fuel station, Gowda is just spending $1.4 for an 80km long drive, without compromising on performance. Refueling is simple as well, on a 20-amp charger the car’s onboard batteries can be refueled in just 25 minutes, while on a conventional wall socket it takes about six hours.
