Eco Factor: Smart walls help reduce energy consumption by slowing down day’s heat coming into a building.

Eco technology company RavenBrick has been working on systems that can allow homeowners to reduce their energy consumption by simply controlling the amount of sunlight and heat that enters their home. The latest innovation by the company is a concept smart wall system that uses nanotechnology to slow down the day’s heat coming into the building.

The smart wall, dubbed RavenSkin, makes use of phase-change material at a molecular level, which allows it to transfer the warmth of the sun’s heat from the afternoon into the night. The wall does this by converting incoming sunlight to infrared radiations that are then directed inward only when you want it to come through the walls. The system not only allows you to regulate the interior temperature of your house, but makes sure that energy is saved in the process.
