Powered by cow dung, eco friendly Slingshot renders potable water

kamenwater1 5784 Pure potable water being the most necessary element to exist after unadulterated air, here’s one more option to obtain purified water……..but alas still a prototype. Dubbed as the Slingshot, the brain behind it is Dean Kamen. He states that the Slingshot can transform any from of water including ocean water, urine or sewage into safe drinking water. This is done through vapor compression distillation and doesn’t require any filters. And to get drinkable water out of urine, you need cow dung to power it. Isn’t it a bit nauseating to know the basic details…about urine, cow dung and all! Leaving my senses aside lets get back to the Slingshot as an eco-friendly gadget. In addition to producing drinkable water, it also generates enough electricity to light 70 energy-efficient light bulbs. Kamen also wants to get this concept widely accepted by areas that lack the supplies of clean water. But as of yet, with the cost of $1500 for the water purifier that can produce 1000 liters of water a day and also $3,700 for the generator that can produce around 1 kW (enough to deliver light to a small village), I doubt if most of the deprived areas around the globe can afford it? Until unless it is sponsored by some social organization. Though its still not reached the production stage, Kamen’s future target price for the device is in the $1,000 to $2,000 range. Via Dvice
