Oregon’s $1 billion Biglow Canyon Wind Farm goes online

Eco Factor: Wind power plant to generate up to 450MW of electrical power.

Built at the cost of a whopping $1 billion, Oregon’s Biglow Canyon wind farm in northern Oregon has been completed and will be able to produce nearly 450MW of clean electrical power. the power plant is built on a 25,000 acre sites and features 217 wind turbines, which can produce enough energy to power 125,000 homes.

The wind farm is owned by Portland General Electric, which aims to meet Oregon’s renewable energy mandate of 15 percent by 2015 and 25 percent by 2025. Oregon also has a much larger farm in the works, which will have a capacity to generate 845MW, when it’s completed in 2012.
