Eco Factor: Biologist creates preserve to save sea life.
Naturalist Jack Rudloe is trying to save sea life on the chance that the BP oil spill could threaten some sea creatures with extinction. The biologist has launched Operation Noah’s Ark at a four acre facility near Tallahassee to preserve more than 350 different specimens, including sharks, starfish, shrimp and batfish.
The facility will include grassland and duplicate high and low tides. Though, the broken wellhead has been capped by BP, Rudloe believes that little heavy crude is still visible on the Gulf and he’s still committed to the project. Rudloe estimates that the facility will cost $1.2 million to build and is hoping that BP will help fund it.
