The amount of environmental degradation that the world has incurred over years can hardly be compensated unless the world comes together in a sort of international amity and joins hands for this onerous task of environmental upliftment. Thankfully, the indications of such prospects are visible!

Joining the save-the-earth bandwagon are these enthusiastic students from National University of Singapore(NUS) who have, over a period of 10 months, put together a one-seater car, NUS-ECO1, for the Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2008 competition in France from May 22 to 24. This car employs Gas-to-Liquids(GTL) fuel which is better than the conventional fuels. They will be the first ones to use this fuel ever in an international competition.

Mr Lee Yuen Hee, Chief Executive Officer, National Environment Agency unveiled this wonder car on May 7, 2008 and took pride in the fact that this is the only team from South-East Asia to take part in such a prestigious event. The brilliant students behind this car deserve to be mentioned, namely, Ridhuan Mukthar, Yeo Yicong, Shang Jia Shun, Ng Chee Keong, Chong Kai Siong and Chen Xianxi along with staff designers at NUS Design Incubation Centre and faculty members like Associate Professor Lu Wen Feng and Associate Professor Ian Gibson.

I sure hope they bring the trophy to South-East Asia but what makes me happier is the fact that the world can look forward to such tech-heroes who will always endeavor to make the world a better place!
