Now bikes will power computers, telephones in electricity-less remote areas

May the technology has entered into everyday life of urban people, but, billions of people in underdeveloped countries have no access to basic communication services, necessary for meeting the health, educational, and economic goals. VOA Frank Ling reports of efforts to power a telephone or a computer in these areas using renewable energy and bike power.

With communication networks not frequently installed in remote areas due to high costs and lack of durability, a new non-profit company – Inveneo — is now offering these inexpensive ways of installations, powering the networks.

These systems are so designed that they can survive dusty and rugged outdoor environments, consuming little power at the same time. These unique renewable energy sources do not require fossil fuels to power the devices, hence contributing towards a clean environment.
