‘No-Plastic Day’: Commendable eco-concern by Wal-Mart

Retail giants are joining the bandwagon of eco-enthusiasts by showing that they care for the environmet too. Wal-Mart is one such eco-friendly company that has been proposing ways to reduce pollution all across its outlets. Focusing on the environment is key to our mission to improve the quality of life for people around the world says the company’s website.

They have established three aggressive goals in their Sustainability Efforts:
• To Be Supplied 100% By Renewable Energy

• To Create Zero Waste
• To Sell Products That Sustain Our Resources & Environment

Wal-Mart China has been advocating the use of energy-efficient bulbs and recycling bags to promote eco-awareness but the project received a luke-warm response from the customers with just 4,00,000 energy-saving bulbs and a few hundreds of recycling bags sold over a period of one year.

This year, it plans to launch a ‘No-plastic day’ to reduce the pollution of plastic where more than 20,000 eco-friendly bags will replace white plastic bags.

Wal-Mart actively promotes the development of sustainable packaging, which is fully recyclable and/or biodegradable, with a goal of zero waste by 2025 in all Wal-Mart stores.

Small efforts make a huge difference and Wal-Marts efforts to go green if definitely commendable.
