Wetlands across the world need immediate conservation efforts. And to aid individual national and local wetland, GlobWetland, an ESA-led initiative in collaboration with the Ramsar Convention Secretariat has been addressing the dire issue using satellite imagery.
GlobWetland hosted a five-day training seminar for a week from 24-28 April in Lake Naivasha, Kenya, for users to understand and integrate the EO-derived products and services into their work. The seminar was funded by ESA’s Data User Element (DUE) and developed jointly by Wetlands International and Vexcel.
African users are guided on how to assess their requirements critically, and suggested with new products. All attendees of the seminar received an ESA TIGER initiative training kit. To help Africa improve water resource management, GlobWetland makes up an integral part of the TIGER initiative. It focuses on the use of EO data to save the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth.
