Shell and Virent Energy Systems of Madison, Wisconsin USA have teamed up for one year on the research, to suggest converting plant sugars into gasoline, giving it a clear preference over ethanol. It will demand new biofuels usable in customary gasoline engines at high blend rates. Hence, lesser need for specific infrastructure, fresh engine designs, and blending tools.
Virent’s Bio Forming platform technology transforms plant sugars into hydrocarbon molecules using catalysts-biomass-derived feed stocks. Having more elevated energy content than ethanol these molecules carry better fuel efficiency. Corn stovers, switch grass, wheat straw, and sugarcane pulp provide the required sugars. The above mentioned technology would be improved upon to ensure large degree commercial production. Virent is utterly hopeful to validate accelerating commercialization of the expertise.
