Eco Factor: Highly aerodynamic bike sporting a carbon fiber frame.
After earning a global recognition for designing and manufacturing sails, rigs, and wetsuits for boardsailing and windsurfing enthusiasts, now NeilPryde is taking on bikes. The Hong Kong based Sports Group has collaborated with BMW’s DesignworksUSA to design and build high-end green bikes. Extensive wind-tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamic modeling helped in obtaining a highly aerodynamic machine.
Weighing a mere 6.75 kg, the NeilPryde bikes have a carbon fiber frame and forks, which in combination with seat clamp and chainstays help to optimize aerodynamic performance. The morphing frameset takes into accounts the varying airflow at different points on the frame. Apart from giving streamlined airflow, the aerofoil design also maintains lateral and torsional stiffness and good handling.
Targeting the high-performance bike racing market, NeilPryde has launched two models that go by the names the “Alize” and the “Diablo”. Both coming with either Shimano’s Dura Ace 7900 or Ultegra 6700 groupset feature Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels, FSA stems and handlebars and Selle Itallia saddles.
