NASA Satellite helps spot earth’s most intense thunderstorm-prone regions

recorded thunder storm in a region 9

While on one hand, a summer thunderstorm generally provides needed rainfall in a region, also providing a relief from heat waves, on the other, there are others that bring large hail, destructive winds, and tornadoes.

Forecasting that is necessary both for farmers and other habitats of a particular region, to give them enough time to be prepared for the changing weather conditions. No worries now! The NASA satellite data are now helping scientists gain insight into the distribution of such storms around much of the world!

Researchers have identified the Earth’s regions experiencing the most intense thunderstorms, using data from the NASA Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite.

Their study was published in the August 2006 issue of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.
