Milk to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria 100 times more effectively than penicillin

Milk to protect bacteria! The tiny wallaby, a bean-shaped creature is known to rely on its mother’s milk compounds to protect itself from pathogens. And scientists did not leave the opportunity to go innovative with its qualities.

The wallaby milk can now be used in hospitals to fight those deadly antibiotic-resistant bacteria, as it has a unique antimicrobial. It is a molecule in the mother’s milk, which is 100 times more effective than the most potent form of penicillin! It can effectively fight against Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli.

Called AGG01, the molecule is also capable of killing four types of Gram-positive bacteria, including one type of fungus. It is last week; the work was presented at the US Biotechnology Industry Organization 2006 meeting held in Chicago.
