Micro-climate system: Cooling device for desert soldiers’ boots

desert soldier bootsIt is tough a life for soldiers posted in the high temperature locations for months. In the desert war zones, the deadliest obstacle for the soldiers is heat. Seeming to be concerned on these lines, a U.S. scientist claims to have developed a micro-climate system. It is a system to be placed in soldiers’ boots to relieve them from the heat. It would provide cooling in high temperature locations.

If the system turns out to be successful, the defence fraternity is sure to thank Kent State University Professor of Exercise Physiology, Ellen Glickman. As she says, the gear soldiers wear and carry can add another 10 additional degrees to the outside temperature, which is killing!

But, this micro-climate cooling system features a pump that circulates cold water through coils in the boots, thus lowering the core body temperature of the wearer. Glickman developed this system working in collaboration with the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine.
