Eco Factor: Concept vehicle fueled by a hybrid hydrogen engine.
George Yoo, a designer at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development in Carlsbad, California, is trying to bring the company’s historic racing vehicles into the future with an added green touch. The designer has come up with a zero-emission concept vehicle dubbed the BlitzenBenz, which can be used for testing and evaluating cutting-edge technology.
The design has been inspired by the original Blitzen-Benz from 1909. The idea is also influenced by Alex Erlandson and his work of creating sculptures from trees, which were grown to represent certain patterns. The designer hopes to grow automotive parts similarly, which will rely heavily on the advancements of nanotechnology.
The zero-emission concept will be powered by next-generation Hygenius hybrid hydrogen engine and four in-wheel electric motors. The hydrogen storage tank is located in the side pocket of the car, just below the cockpit that shows the fuel level in a small window to provide a visual sense of water being recycled in the vehicle.
