Eco Factor: Zero-emission concept rickshaw powered by in-wheel electric motors.

Conceived for the LA Auto Show’s 2010 Design Challenge, the Maybach DRS (Den-Riki-Sha) is a concept electric rickshaw that takes Mercedes-Benz’s legacy of producing eco-friendly vehicles to its next level. The exceptional-looking vehicle, which takes its roots from Jin-Riki-Sha (Japanese version of rickshaw), mixes a green design with modern nuances of architecture, infrastructure and nature.

As the user pedals the vehicle for forward motion, the in-wheel electric motors begin transferring electricity to batteries that are located at its base. Maybach designers confirm that the vehicle, which uses state-of-the-art DNA coding on its outer body to store vehicle-related info, is ideal for future luxury vehicles. Panoramic roof, doors and windows, and an upright cockpit: all seem to suggest the same.

Moreover, an onboard computer is there to control this human-electric hybrid. Touted as the first worldwide NMV (Naturally Manufactured Vehicle), the Maybach DRS also features a light, transparent design with a plethora of comfort and safety options.
