Amidst the soaring demand for renewable energy sources in a bid to combat global warming and greenhouse gas emissions, it is no surprising for a brewery turning ‘green’ being powered by the sun.
But, the landmark Pearl Brewery, the once-manufacturer of Texan beer, will create a mark by being a “learning laboratory” for green research, soon. The brewery will be installed with solar panels capable of producing about 200 kilowatts of electricity. This amounts to generating about a quarter of the power needed to serve the 67,000 square foot (6,200 square meters) warehouse.
Silver Ventures will be renovating the warehouse into a mix of offices, shops and residences.
With this solar energy-produced, the city-owned utility CPS Energy hopes to meet 15 percent of all its customers’ power demand with environment-friendly energy sources by 2020.
A landmark in San Antonio and located north of downtown, the Pearl Brewery is now a hub for the ‘green’ scientists and ‘green’ energy, a paradigm for the region’s environmental causes.
