Eco Factor: Intermodal Transit Hub uses thin film photovoltaic cells to meet energy needs
Intermodal Transit Hub designed by LA-based junior architect, artist and industrial designer Carl Burdick is a laudable effort aimed at utilizing solar energy to meet vast energy requirements of bus cum rail transit station.
The designer has proposed to embed thin film photovoltaic cells into new plastic composite roofing technology, currently under development by DuPont. The plan aims at harnessing vast amounts of solar energy through this technology to meet all the power needs of the station besides using the natural sunlight to light up the dark underground train tunnels.

The building of the new transit station has been attached to a nearby highway to lend robustness to the entire structural framework. This move is also aimed at shifting attention from a car dominated landscape to the one which trains get re-established as favorite mode of transportation.
