Jaambaaro: Pedal-Powered life saver!

This is a weird little dilemma to be in as here is something that is really nice and touching, but at the same time you wonder whether it will really serve the purpose when push comes to shove. Jaambaaro is a pedal-powered ambulance for places where normally there is no such facility which makes it an absolute awesome eco-innovation for me. You can make all the fancy gadgets and parade them as much as you want but when something that saves lives of people comes along; it is just a class above the rest. After all, what is more important than human life? (Ask Bush and he would say Oil, but we will leave him alone)

Benoit Angibaud designed the Jaambaaro, a pedal-powered ambulance that’s designed to help people in rural Africa transport the sick or injured to get medical attention. It features a canopy for keeping people out of the sun and a stretcher that the injured can be loaded on. Then the driver hops in front, gets to pedaling, and off they go. While many might argue at what pace it might really work and if pedal power is fast enough to save lives one can safely say that something is better than nothing!

There are many villages across the developing world which could really use this and once again it is a concept that for me is awesome. But I would suggest the designers to maybe put in a solar panel on the canopy and an engine propelled by it just to save those crucial minutes that matter. Maybe will be a tad bit more expensive than this, but would be a lot, lot more effective.
