A small island in Scotland has shown the big world the way to go green. The Isle of Eigg will now be completely run on green energy, minimizing the polluting thermal energy needs. Solar, wind and water will light the tiny island. Food for thought for the rest of the world.
The Isle of Eigg, a tiny island in Scotland has left the world behind in donning the cap of green island. Making efficient use of the renewable energy sources like sun, water, and wind, the inhabitants of Eigg will now get 24 hour supply of electricity via the green energy. The achievement will prevail all across the island, meeting 95% of its energy need and keeping secure the energy for future use in storage batteries. Large wind mills, solar plants and hydro power stations will now take the place of diesel generators that the Hebrideans used to avail before the advent of green energy in their tiny island.
However, the islanders had to contribute to the success of the green scheme in terms of financial contribution. Yet, the initial investment will definitely reap benefits for the Eiggs in longer term, as the cost of living on green energy will certainly be lesser than their traditional electricity means.
This is certainly a grand step toward green energy and thereby helping lessen the burden on the already sagging environment under thermal energy. The Isle of Eigg can now hope to emit lesser greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, thereby doing a favor to the desiccating environment and to themselves. Now, it is up to the world to follow in the steps on this little island of Scotland.
