Is the Sun setting on the Oceans ability to dissolve CO2?

Is it not great when you go to a beach & just watch the Sun sink into the ocean or watch it rise in its entire splendor? But there is a lot more to the oceans than pure aesthetic dimensions that we often attribute to them. They maintain global temperature by carrying heat with their currents; they give us rains & sustain the planet as a whole. But not many do know that the oceans also absorb a huge chunk of Carbon based gases, mainly CO2. Now how is this important to us? Well, obviously cause we’ll die otherwise due to shortage of Oxygen, that’s why. Simple & scary thought.

Now scientists have made a startling revelation that the capacity of the oceans to absorb greenhouse gases has gone down by half its initial capacity. In a paper published in the Journal of Geophysical Research, the findings of this shocking report are stated. The researchers say that The Atlantic has lost its ability to absorb CO2 by half since 1995. It says that such a change in space of a decade is drastic & shows growing concern over global warming.

The reason attributed to this vary from natural climatic changes to the obvious effect man has had on nature. The growing shipping industry & the waste that are being constantly released into the oceans, are sure as hell bound to have an influence. The reason they say is surely not that the Ocean is full of CO2, but is due to maybe a natural cycle that sees the Ocean’s ability to act as a sink to greenhouse gas, getting reduced.

They need to find out the exact answer to this grave puzzle quick, I say. I don’t want to predict a Doomsday scenario, but if this trend continues then all I can say is, ever watched “The Day After Tomorrow”? If you haven’t, take a look. Have I scared you? If yes, then my job is done.
