Insecticide-treated clothing to reduce malarial infection in poor countries by 70%

Malaria, among other diseases, kills hundreds in the poorest parts of Africa each year. To protect against it, researchers suggest that spraying clothing with insecticide could be an effective and powerful new weapon against malaria.

It has been found that the commonly used insecticide — permethrin can reduce the chances of malarial infection by 70%. Using insecticide-treated clothes for preventing malaria is not a new strategy, as it is already used to protect US military personnel who operate in malaria affected areas. But, its use has been suggested for the first time among common people as a cheap alternative solution to the disease in poorer countries.
