It seems that with each day, technology is touching new limits! You must be wondered to know that one day, you would be able to print solar cells! Wow, Isn’t it great? Usually, solar cells installed on satellites and buildings are made using purified silicon.
From the past few decades, scientists are trying hard to explore capacity of polymer material for painting or coating on laptops or cars etc. They are known as organic solar cells.
New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Somenath Mitra informed Earth & Sky regarding this. He has recently created an organic solar cell which comprises of fullerenes or buckyballs and carbon nanotubes. Buckyballs effectively capture electrons from light. In order to conduct electric current, nanotubes operate like wires.
He also informed that organic solar cell technology would enable you to print solar cells from PC. Mitra also clarified that success of this technology relies heavily on the cost of solar panels or power bills!
