Eco Factor: Hydrokinetic river turbine generates up to 25KW of renewable electrical power.

The remote town of Eagle, Alaska has installed a new hydrokinetic river turbine that generates all the power the small village needs from renewable sources. The hydrokinetic turbine, which is definitely greener than building dams to harness water power, is attached to a barge in the Yukon River and rotates at speeds slow enough to keep the aquatic life safe.

The turbine has been made by New Energy Corp, and has been installed by Alaska Power & Telephone. The developers state that the turbine will be able to generate up to 25KW of renewable electrical power, which is enough to meet the requirements of the village with only 68 inhabitants.
