Eco Factor: Organic pavilion creates green atmosphere for social interaction.

Designed as a competition entry for “Sukkah City”, the “Hollow” by visiondivision is a structure that consists of an organic pavilion that changes the conditions for social interaction and behavior, using compression to hold the structure together. The competition invited designers and architects to design a modern Sukkah – a temporary hut created for an annual Jewish Harvest Festival in Union Square, New York City.

The architecture firm came up with a green space that roof made out of branches, which are not in bundles. The different heights and thickness of the roof creates an ambiance for social interaction and behavior. The space houses two interlinked rooms, a social area for dining and interactions and a more closed space for sleeping and gazing at the star studded sky. The hollow reed reed changes its light and visible permeability by how thick it is.
