Greensburg Green Art Center

This is the newly completed 547 Art Center, Greensburg, Kansas – named after the tornado that almost destroyed the whole town. It was built in Lawrence, broken down, transported by road and later assembled in Greensburg. The building is a project of Studio804 of the University Of Kansas School Of Architecture and is also one of the first green buildings in the state. It’s completely energy efficient – using only as much power as it generates via solar panels and wind turbines. It is a LEED Platinum certified building, making it one of the most eco-friendly structures around.

The gallery was built to house and sustain both visual and the performing arts thus bringing art closer to the general public of Greensburg. This community strives on their heritage and culture; hence the primary aim of supporting the art centre is achieved. The building in itself is a work of art in both design and aesthetics. Let’s hope to see more green buildings like this one in the future.
