Even a die-hard environmentalist finds it difficult to take the green route when it comes to traveling. You can’t stop dreaming of traveling to exotic places just because you are adding to global warming if you took a flight nor can you afford to travel via ship or train in a ‘time is money’ world and not every place you visit will have eco-friendly hotels.

So, let’s get practical and see what we can do to travel green.

Recharge yourself and your gadgets!
You are traveling to recharge ‘your batteries’ and take home cherished memories of your trip. Opt for digital cameras so that you can print the pictures you liked. Since most of the gadgets use batteries, opt for rechargeable batteries which are environmentally friendly.

Feel @ home in your hotel! Most of us feel that we should make use of the amenities irrespective of whether we need them or not since we are paying for it. When you expect the hotel to make you feel @ home, it’s obvious that you should be treating your hotel like you would treat your home. So, switch off all electrical appliances when you are not using them. Stop faucet while you brush or shave and reuse towels and linen if they are good enough the next day too.

Sharing is caring!
It’s more fun when you travel with a group and works out to be economical too. Opt to share cabs with co-travelers when you go for local sight seeing and borrow from or lend to friends; travel accessories like tents, beach chairs, maps and travel guides.

Be a Roman in Rome! Try exploring the place like a localite, use public transport or walk down the market place to get a hang of the real place. Pining for home food? You are adding food miles every time you order a dish from your hometown; instead, get adventurous and pamper your taste buds with local cuisine.

The small steps you take can make a huge difference to the world!
