Eco Factor: Energy-efficient server cooling tech developed by Green Revolution Cooling.

We’ve seen data center operators chose unconventional places to store servers in an effort to reduce the amount of energy it requires to cool these units using conventional techniques. Austin based startup Green Revolution Cooling is now trying to reduce energy consumption by developing a liquid cooling enclosure that it says can cool high-density server installation for a fraction of the cost of air cooling in traditional data centers.

The company’s CarnotJet Dielectric Fluid Submersion Cooling System resembles a rack tipped over on its back, with servers inserted vertically into slots in the enclosure, which is filled with a liquid similar to mineral oil. This oil is not hazardous, as it a transfer heat almost as well as water but doesn’t conduct an electric charge.

The GreenDEF coolant has been optimized for data center and can support heat load of up to 100KW per 42U rack. The company says the CarnotJet system is designed to comply with fire codes and the Clean Water Act, and integrates with standard power distribution units (PDUs) and network switches.
