GRAF: Water conservation at its best!

graf

I don’t know why, but this reminds me of those science projects from school! However, it’s much more serious business. As you must have guessed, it takes up the much-discussed and vital issue of conservation of water.

So what is the mechanism behind The German GRAF system? It’s fairly simple, contrary to a myth doing the rounds, and doesn’t require housing reforms. It collects rainwater on the roof or terrace using channels. This water is then filtered and passed to the interior of a tank, from where it is distributed to the various outlets for different uses by the household. The tanks ensure perfect water conservation because they have been manufactured by injecting high-density polyethylene.

The set-up covers an area of 150 m2 collection, is capable of reserving 4,500 L of high-quality water and is estimated to meet the requirement of 150L of water per person per day. The result, each one of us end up saving gallons of precious water, approximately 50% of our household requirements, recycling rainwater for washing clothes, watering the garden, dishwashers, personal hygiene or cooking.
