Gelfuel: The safe, clean and eco friendly cooking fuel

gelfuel

Greenheat Co. Pvt., Zimbabwe, in partnership with World Bank has come up with Gelfuel, with an aim to provide a renewable, low cost, safe, and clean household cooking fuel (Gelfuel) from biomass ethanol alcohol, principally through the fermentation and distillation of sugar cane, sweet sorghum, and other agricultural crops. Gelfuel is non-toxic and harmless even if accidentally swallowed. The broader aim of Greenheat, of course, is to prohibit more than 350 million African wood-fuel and paraffin users from being exposed to health hazards. Moreover, it endeavors to put a stop to wood-fuel usage as it is unsustainable under prevailing land and forestry resource use patterns. It also eliminates the difficulties associated with unreliable electricity.

Greenheat has been distributing internationally from Durban and Jo’burg/Johannesburg, South Africa since 2000. Their research and development has been assisted by NGO’s and the private sector. They have an array of personal stoves and other campaigning products for the outdoors-types. Greenheat realizes that Gelfuel is the need of the day, as woodfuel supplies are diminishing and petroleum fuel prices are expected to escalate in Africa. Source : Ecotality
