In a world where every field is looking toward renewable energy for power, how could the aviation industry lack behind? Be it the commercial airlines or the military, both are testing biofuels as fuel for flights. The test fights have proven that using aviation biofuels is greener and more efficient when compared with petroleum-based fuels. The Gilze-Rijen Airbase recently saw the first helicopter test flight using aviation biofuel take off successfully.

The Royal Netherlands Air Force conducted the test flight that used a Boeing Apache AH-64 D helicopter. The aviation fuel that was used to power the chopper was Honeywell’s Green Jet Fuel, which is made from algae and used cooking oil. Biofuel and conventional jet fuel were combined in equal quantity to give the helicopter immense power. Honeywell is extremely proud of the fact that their fuel is behind the success of the first biofuel-powered helicopter test flight.
