Green technology or clean technology is the latest buzzword. With an attempt to go with the latest trend, General Electric (GE) has decided to change the gas of its refrigerators.

General Electric (GE) has always remained conscious about the conservation of the ecosystem. The launch of a new eco-friendly gas in its refrigerators is just a small step towards proving this fact.

The company claims that its new gas, cyclopentane, will help in the reduction of its environmental footprint. The company plans to host an event in Decatur facility, the place where the gas was first introduced in the refrigerators. An amount of $16 million is to be spent in order to convert Decatur facility to utilize the new gas. Later in 2014, the company is also going to use this gas for other refrigeration products made in the US.

Cyclopentane is used as a blowing agent for the foam insulation poured into refrigeration products during manufacture, and it is estimated that the gas is capable of removing around 99 percent of green house gases. In addition, cyclopentane will also improve the effectiveness of insulation.

As part of the whole program, it has also been decided that GE will dispose its old refrigerators to contribute toward a greener planet.
