Eco Factor: Low-emission vehicle powered by a hybrid drivetrain.

Fiat has started efforts to develop a low-emission hybrid drivetrain that can reduce emissions to just 80g/km. The powertrain matches the company’s upcoming dual-clutch transmissions and the new 900cc TwinAir two-cylinder turbo petrol engine.

The company has figured out a way of integrating a small electric motor into the body of the gearbox, which is powered by a small battery pack. The motor will turn the gearbox’s internal shafts and gears and power the car when the petrol engine is idle. The new system is likely to be offered as an option on the 500 and next-generation Panda.
