Eco Factor: Sustainable vehicle uses a windmill to assist pedaling.

Riding through the roads with passengers on is not a cakewalk. It is commendable the way the rickshaw pullers pedal throughout the day in the blazing sun. But, a pedicab driver in Kathmandu has a slightly different experience to share. Shiro Hosojima rides a vehicle that doesn’t leave him exhausted. His wind-human hybrid vehicle has an attached windmill that provides extra thrust.

Hosojima commissioned a professor in a neighboring town to design and build a windmill for his rickshaw. How it really works is, the windmill is connected to the rear wheels with a side-mounted gear. The drum’s rotation helps in acceleration, making it easier for the pedicab driver to pedal.
