Eco Factor: Concept proposes urban highway to produce food using greenhouses and gardens.
Feeder seems an interesting concept which apart from adding a dash of green to the never-ending urban concrete also reduces dependence on the rural hinterlands for food. Envisioned by Studio Gang, the project aims at changing the food situation in Chicago by transforming the Ohio highway feeder ramp into food producing patch. The Feeder would support a pyramid like green house where the people can grow their own food and supply it to the nearby markets and restaurants.
The measure would not only reduce the dependence on rural hinterlands for supplies but also cut the time, and money spent on transporting fruits and vegetables to the urban market. The project also promises secondary yet very important advantages like lessening air pollution, and educating the public and students about healthier ways to produce food.
