Eco Factor: Zero-emission vehicle powered by electricity.

Bringing electric engines and Yokohama’s orange oil-infused tires to the test, the EV Sports Concept HER-02 buggy is ready to take on the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The buggy gets powered by an AC motor that runs on batteries developed by Sanyo.

Last year, the predecessor of this electric buggy took the challenge and completed the 12.5-mile course, which rises 4721 feet through 156 turns, setting a time of 14:50.754. The electric car used two 13.5KW motors and a 15KWh Sanyo lithium-ion battery pack.

This year’s challenge is being sponsored by Yokohama to show off the potential of the company’s eco-friendly orange oil tire technology, which uses 20 percent less petroleum than conventional tires.
