Who does not like a top 10 list? The magic about such compilations is that they are damn hard to make and most often most people end up disagreeing with you. If you allow 100 people to make a list of their top 10 on something, then you can bet that you would get 101 different lists and all of them sound equally sane. So here is an attempt to bring to you some of the best Human Powered Vehicles that are going to pave a way towards green future and clean, emission-free roads. Fossil fuels are going to be banished back in to the depths of the earth by these clean machines. So what are we waiting for? Let us get started with the joy ride…

10. Very Eco Human Powered Vehicle

This may not be something that is going to blow your mind off, but it is a wonderful little twist on the traditional bike design. The Very Eco HPV is designed to give you the work out of a bike with the comfort of your couch. It is really wonderful for those who wish to have a leisurely ride and it is powered by nothing but pedals. Take a look at the picture and you can sense the charm in the design of Very Eco.

9. Bicy Taxi

Powered by both human pedal power and also the power of the sun with the help of solar panels on the top, this is the exact opposite of Very Eco. It has been designed not for personal comfort, but for public commuting in a green way. This Taxi comes with 3 wheels and no doors and of course no emissions too. Now that is truly being unconventional and that earns the Bicy Taxi a place in the elite.

8. Conference Bike

The conference Bike is probably the wackiest of all the vehicles on the list in the fact that it is probably the height of team work that corporate bosses expect from their employees. It is wonderfully suited for having that conference on the go so that you do not really waste any time. The Conference bike sure gets some credit both for creative green design and for a wonderful wacky idea.

7. VeloDisco

This is the best party concept that you can come across and it is the exact opposite of the conference bike. There is no work here but tons of fun and only fun. This is a bicycle that can give a party ride to 30 people at a time and is made out of completely recycled material.

It has party space, a place to get wonderful view from and of course seats for those who need to peddle. The VeloDisco is a true innovation in ‘Green and Clean Partying’.

6. Go-One

Designed by Michael Goretzky, the futuristic-looking yellow Go-One HPV has headlights, turn signals and joystick steering apart from a 500 watt BionX electric assist motor with a top speed of 20 mph. It is the winner when it comes to closed bikes that will put any traditional bicycle to shame. Looking at it, one would sure think there was an engine somewhere, but it is only pedal powered and wonderful for that hot sunny day or even the rainy evenings.

5. TrioBike

As far as multi-tasking goes in a green commuting style, the TrioBike is the winner hands down. Looking like the long-departed motorbike and sidecar, the TrioBike is a retro-styled bike, a two-seat buggy and a carrier bike and all this can be done with some simple switching of stuff and without tools. If you wish to go green in more than just one way then the TrioBike is the ultimate answer.

4. Ecotrike

The Ecotrike is my personal favorite as it has a design that is very unconventional and even funny for a modern vehicle. The very distinct edges and the shape allow it to make sure that it stands out from the crowd. It is both Solar powered and pedal powered giving it a good speed of around 30 mph. It is a fine package that clubs our own energy with that of the sun.

3. The Buick Regal with Pedal Power.

Many might believe that this really does not deserve the spot that it is getting, but just the idea of taking an old Buick Regal and stripping it under the hood and giving it only pedal power deserves plenty of credit and a lot of admiration. Being someone fascinated by cars, this shows a funky way of amalgamating unconventional sources of energy with conventional design. So it only goes at 15 mph, but it still is awesome indeed.

2. Human Car

Now we have a company that has the same idea of the guy who made his Buick Regal pedal powered, but is taking that to the commercial market. So for taking that idea one step further, this comes up one notch higher! The Human Car is a zero emissions car that uses a push- pull hand mechanism to provide power to batteries that drive electric motors. Human Car is a Seattle company that would like to build a factory in Central Oregon to produce 3,000 human-powered hybrid cars a year.

1. Human Electric (HE) Hybrid Vehicle

The moment you looked at this, you knew this was the winner. This very futuristic concept allows the vehicle to be charged both by the sun and by pedal power. More than the concept, it is the design that stands out as appealing and cool. It not only provides for green commuting, but also makes sure that it is loads of fun. Always loved designs like this and so the HE Hybrid is our winner in a very tightly fought contest.
