Eco Factor: Shopping Boulevard cooled sustainably with seawater.

Zwarts & Jansma Architects have unveiled the plans of a nature-inspired shopping boulevard with a stunningly green Ecodome, planned for a location in the Middle East, which allows visitors to shop in a comfortable and natural setting. The structure combines the European idea of open squares and wide streets with the Arab concept of a closed building block with courts and alleys incised.

The visitors can go about in three different spheres including the corniche that allows them to stroll under the palm trees. Singular building blocks and larger squares are lined up resembling a European city with an open layout. The third zone features an open front area that is similar to a luxurious Arab souk.

The striking feature of the development is the Ecodome structure, which is a shell constructed on an advanced level. Visitors can enter the dome from the sea. Moreover, seawater is used to regulate interior temperatures to a comfortable 29 degrees without consuming energy for conventional cooling systems.

Restaurants and lounges for visitors to relax are integrated in the ground level, which also allows the visitors to admire the view. The rooftops are overgrown and serve as exhibition areas for large items. The Ecodome will be constructed as a duplex dome that is filled with transparent air cushions.
