EcoFactor: A luxurious yacht that is designed to operate in a hybrid-engine mode and thereby ensure that carbon emissions are kept to a minimum.
Going green on the vast blue oceans is by no means an easy task. Once you really embark on a long journey and add luxury and comfort to the ride, you inevitably end up polluting the environment. Going hybrid with a luxury yacht is by no means an easy task, as you would need to balance design with green features and comfort with carbon emissions. The Long Range 23 unveiled at the 48th Salone Nautico Internazaionale tries to bring in a green trend to the designing of a luxury yacht by being the world’s first to run on a hybrid engine. According the Ferretti Group, the yacht is powered by a unique diesel-hybrid engine that ensures that it can run on zero emissions under some conditions. The yacht is all about luxury on the waves with its 75-foot-long body holding lavish interiors that are crafted to pamper your senses.
The Dark Side:
A diesel-hybrid engine is not much to rave about when you consider that most often this yacht will run in a mode where it pollutes the seas as much as any other luxury yacht. The details of this new hybrid drivetrain are unknown, and it would be nice to know to what effect it can have on curbing emissions. The claim of zero emissions in “specific mode of operation” sounds all the more ridiculous. All set and done, the Lang Range 23 looks more like a publicity stunt than a genuine attempt to go green.
