Eco Factor: Gas for heating homes and even running cars produced from wood.
A new kind of facility has opened its doors in Austria, which is unique because it uses wood to produce gas that can then be used in a wide range of applications ranging from heating homes to powering gas-powered cars. The plant, which is considered to be a simple stepping stone for much larger plants in other parts of the world, has shown that technically it’s possible to generate renewable energy without depending too much on solar or wind energy.
The facility is located in Guessing in southeastern Austria, a town which is renowned for being self-reliant in terms of energy. The $11 million plant can produce over 100 cubic meters of bio-gas, having the same quality as natural gas every hour, which is enough to heat 150 homes on a cold winter’s day.
