Eco Factor: Solar plant to provide energy to the track and add power to the local energy grid.
In an effort to add green to the thrilling NASCAR races, Pocono Raceway has announced the development of a 3MW solar plant. Fueled by 25 acres of solar array, the plant will provide enough energy to meet the demands of the racetrack and also add power to the local energy grid, especially when no races are being held.
The plant is expected to be up and running by the spring of 2010. NASCAR has stated that this project is the biggest renewable energy stadium project in the world by more than two times.
