Eco Factor: Zero-emission UAV sets endurance record running on fuel cells.
Developed by the Naval Research Laboratory, the hydrogen fuel-cell powered Ion Tiger has set an unofficial record by flying 23 hours and 17 minutes at Aberdeen Proving Ground. In addition to providing a zero-emission flight, the electric fuel-cell propulsion system has the benefits of low noise.
The 550W fuel cell onboard the Ion Tiger has four times the efficiency of a comparable IC engine and the system provides seven times the energy in the equivalent weight of batteries.
