Eco Factor: Low emission scooter powered by a gasoline/electric engine.
After being in the news for quite some time now, Piaggio has finally announced its newest creation – the Hybrid MP3 three-wheeled scooter. The scooter will be available in Europe in August and will make a US debut next year. The company claims that the hybrid scooter is one step ahead of the first-generation hybrid cars, as it uses a lithium-ion battery instead of a nickel metal hydride one.
The scooter is powered by both the electric and the gasoline engine working simultaneously. However, the rider can go for a zero-emission all-electric drive during shorter trips. The battery pack of the scooter can be recharged in three hours, but 85% charge can be achieved in just two hours. Like all good things, the Hybrid MP3 too comes for a hefty price, which will cost about $12,500 more than the gasoline MP3 scooter.
